The Florida Everblades is a minor league hockey Team. For the 2013-2014 season, the team's management decided to release an app to allow fans to view scores, recent news, photos, and other team related items on their mobile phones. The team hired a freelance programmer, and I took the role of project manager & UI Designer, overseeing the development progress and providing graphic support to determine the app's overall look and feel. The app is currently available in the Apple App Store for iOS, and an android version is in development.View the App in the Apple App Store
Prior to beginning the project, we held informal interviews of approximately 30 different fans of the team, ranking for diehard season ticket holder to the casual fan. These interviews were held by myself and the owner of Boost Creative, Matt Connar, during games that we attended. After our guerilla research, we affirmed that our initial direction of what to focus on was correct: scores, news, and the game schedule.
We began the project by mapping out the architecture of the app, and deciding what would be included. From there, our team presented various rounds of low to medium-fidelity wireframes to the client to gauge interest in the proposed layouts.
Once the layout and content was established for each section of the app, I began taking the wireframes and creating high-fidelity representation of each screen. These were in turn used by the iOS developer on our team who was working remotely, for reference when building out the app.
I worked closely with our app developer via e-mail as the project progressed to ensure the app included the requisite amount of visual polish, and to ensure consistency of both the visual design and the Everblades brand. I supplied flattened .jpgs for reference to the developer, along with individual assets as requested. As the app was constructed, I kept a running list of items completed and that still needed to be accomplished. AS the project progressed, I personally tested the app of multiple iOS devices to ensure visual consistency and no technical errors were present.
During my five years at Boost Creative, I designed a number of different print materials for the everblades, ranging from promotional magnets to direct mail coupons.
The Florida Everblades play their games in Germain Arena, which is comprised of dual 200’ x 85’ ice rinks. The second rink is used as a recreational rink, which houses the the largest youth and adult hockey league in the southeastern states, with over 1000 players throughout the sixteen different divisions and levels of competitiveness. Many of these divisions are travel teams which are part of the Junior Everblades training academy They also offer skating lessons and ice time for youth figure skaters.
I personally designed and developed this website, which is a custom Wordpress theme. Since it's built on a content management system, the rink director is able to easily update league scores and statistics, along with public skating and open ice schedules.Visit The Recreational Rinks Website
