Bloomberg News collaborated with Ascend, a team of 5 Masters of Human-Computer Interaction students at Carnegie Mellon University for an 8-month capstone project. The goal of the project was to create a novel design solution to ensure their editors and reporters are able to deliver market-moving news quickly and accurately.About the project
During the research phase, we evaluated numerous content creation productivity, and content curation tools focusing on usability and features. We also interviewed employees from organizations similar to Breaking News which deal with distributing large amounts of data under a time constraint.
Within the New York City Newsroom, we also conducted 26 contextual inquiries and fly-on-the-wall observations. We engaged in 14 remote interviews with global breaking news teams to identify key differences between newsrooms domestically and internationally.About our Research Process
After completing our initial research, we began our iterative design phase. Our approach was to design, test, and analyze our prototype in stages. After each stage we refined the prototype and increased it's fidelity, beginning with a paper prototype and ending with a fully-functional, web-based prototype created on the Angular.js framework.
Due to the proprietary nature of our design we are unable to show screenshots of the final prototype, though we can describe our design process as a high-level overview.About our Design Process
